In the next few days, we’ll roll out a small but mighty improvement to the shipment booking flow — and while it may not seem like a big deal at first glance, we think it’s going to make your life a whole lot easier.
Let’s be honest: no one enjoys filling out extra forms, especially when they don’t need to. Until now, Customs and Insurance were combined into a single step, which meant that even if you were just shipping something across town, you still had to enter customs info just to get an insurance quote. Not ideal.
So, we fixed it.
We’ve now split Customs and Insurance into two distinct steps during booking. That means less friction, fewer unnecessary fields, and a smoother experience overall.
Here’s how it looks now:
- Customs – Manage declarations and duty estimates with greater clarity.
- Insurance – Choose the right coverage for your shipment, with all the info you need upfront.
By separating these steps, you’ll only be prompted for the information that’s relevant to your shipment. For example, if you’re shipping domestically, you can now skip customs entirely and go straight to insurance.
It’s a small shift, but one that clears the path for faster bookings — and gets you where you need to go with fewer clicks.
So, what’s changing?
Depending on how your instance of Exfresso is set up, you’ll experience this update in one of two ways:
Method # 1:
If your shipment crosses a customs border, you’ll complete your customs declaration like you always have.

Once that’s done, you’ll see a new, dedicated insurance step where we’ll show you any insurance products available for your shipment — based on what you just declared.

If your shipment doesn’t cross a customs border, you’ll now see a brand-new step to declare your commodities. This helps us determine if insurance products are available, without asking for full customs info. No unnecessary forms, no wasted time.

Method # 2:
If your Exfresso setup offers insurance before rating, everything stays the same in terms of flow — you’ll still be able to select insurance early in the booking process.
The only update you’ll notice is a visual one: if you opt to include insurance, it will now appear in the sidebar throughout the booking process, not just at the first and final steps. It’s a small UX improvement that helps keep things visible and top-of-mind.
Whether you’re shipping across the city or around the world, this update is all about reducing clutter, clarifying your steps, and making the booking process feel a little more intuitive.
We’re always looking for ways to smooth out the rough edges and remove the “wait, why am I filling this out?” moments. This change is one more step in that direction — helping you book faster, with less friction and more confidence.
Here’s to a simpler, smoother shipping experience. Happy shipping!
